Thanks to all that attended our presentation today at the Henderson County Chamber.  It was a nice turn out and a very interactive group.

By request, I have included the slideshow I ran behind me during the presentation.  Good luck on your web projects and I hope we were able to give you some food for thought.

At One Time It Was Ask Jeeves. Now Social Takes Over.

Some of the best inventions are ideas that evolve from the original brainstorm. In the past, Ask.com (originally known as Ask Jeeves…what did they do with Jeeves by the way?) came up with the idea of a search engine that would let you ask a question. It stripped all the words out that were irrelevant and returned results of static pages that had your answer.

Aardvark (found at vark.com) is taking this one step further. They send out your question via social networks. They try to find the most appropriate answers and send them to you. The only drawback is they send them to you via IM. I don’t know about you, but my Yahoo! Messenger account hasn’t gained much use in the last year or so. Plus, you have to wait for an answer. Its like letting others do the research for you.

It will be interesting to see if it catches on, how successful the feedback is, and if people are willing to wait for answers in a world of instant gratification.

UPDATE: I found Aardvark difficult to get a response from. It doesn’t really let you know easily. It would be better if it emailed you the answer.  Also, Google recently bought Aardvark, so it will be interesting to see how the Goliath handles making it better.

Great, I get a new phone that I can peruse the Internet with, but I can’t seem to log into WordPress with it.  Odd…actually, what is more odd is that I can log in to WordPress from the Comment/Frontend…but when I go to the backend/Admin…no go.

Anyone else experience this annoyance?

Okay, so there is a lot of 2009 left, but this is the first commercial to make me truly smile.

Adam Lambert’s Trainwreck Arrangements Continue

Well, another American Idol episode passes by and another example of how Adam Lambert is the best singer with the least ability to interpret a song.  With a wild range that reminds one of Mark Slaughter (of the band Slaughter and Vinnie Vincent’s Invasion) and the goth rock look of Evanescence, Adam sings his sappy soft side and runs into wild shrill but controlled high notes.  If he wants to build a career singing like the band The Darkness, he could enjoy the fine one album success they did, but I don’t see him touching the masses…instead he will live as a curiosity that fades like Fantasia and Taylor Hicks.

Kris Allen could be the longest term success with the least talent of the final three.  He has the look, he is the most modern, he is massively creative and intelligent with arrangements, and he can be brilliant from time to time (see “Ain’t No Sunshine”).

Danny Gokey continues to be my shoe in winner this year though.  He is the most consistent and he has a great vocal quality.  While I don’t see him being a long term success, I do think he will put out some great music and will have a following that will stick with him and make him very rich.

The votes will soon be in, but I put Danny on top with Kris coming in a close second.

Adam’s wreckless arrangements are going to do in the most vocally talented singer in the competition.
