Okay, so I’ve been failing a bit to get myself blogging this month. It has been a busy month. But occasionally I hear something that so inspires me to action that I have to blog (I try to keep it industry related, otherwise you would have read a novel on healthcare!)
The latest item to get me inspired (or should I say incensed) is the commercial I heard today while waiting at the Drive Thru for my lunch. Apparently someone has the bright idea of selling Text Message Advertising as one of the best and low cost ways to advertise.
ARE YOU SERIOUS?
Think about it. What do you think of unsolicited spam? Its annoying and a bother…but you kinda ignore it. Why, because it doesn’t cost you anything but time.
Think about unsolicited text messages. If your customer base is looking for something cost effective, they are also probably buying a certain amount of text messages per month (we don’t all have unlimited plans). In fact, the few unsolicited spam text messages I did receive turned me quickly on my cellphone company. I no longer use text messaging because of it.
With spam, you have little recourse. Someone can spam you and you might never know who the spammer is. With text messaging, they will know exactly how to reach you…and don’t be surprised if you get some hate texts in response.
Normally, i’d put this down to one man’s experience, but there are instances of serious misuse of text messaging that not only annoyed potential customers, but also lead the company sending the spam text into some legal or financial hot water (Jamster lawsuit | Satterfield lawsuit).
Don’t believe all you’ve heard through commercials. Buyer beware…your company’s reputation is on the line…
